Today is the holiday called Hinamatsuri, also known as Girls’ Day or Doll’s Day. We have been seeing beautiful displays of dolls representing the Emperor, Empress, and the court. This is the display at our hotel.
Breakfast at here is a lovely buffet.
I picked up an ankle support at a pharmacy today, it really helped!
Our first touristy stop today was Nishiki Market, a fresh seafood market with a variety of other kinds of shops. It’s a long covered street market. This was a place on Mike’s want to do list, but we both enjoyed it.
One of our favorite spots was the Snoopy store with Snoopy shaped taiyaki.
We also ate lunch here. (Don’t tell the kids we had donuts for lunch!)
Then we stopped by the Kanji Museum. The English guide was a little sparse (and they warned me about that.) If I understood more written Japanese, we would have gotten more out of it. We still enjoyed it, as it was super interactive. The most fun activity was writing and stamping our names in hiragana and katakana and seeing where the syllabary symbols came from.
We also got to see the calligraphy of the kanji of the year for 2022.
Finally, we headed back to do not so exciting things like laundry and packing for travel the next day. We’ll ship our luggage and it will take a day to arrive, so we had to plan carefully. (Next stops are Kamakura and Yokohama!)
