3/4 - Kamakura and Yokohama
This morning, I felt bad for the desk attendant. We needed to forward our luggage to Yokohama, but the little desk for it wouldn’t open until 9am. That’s when our train was leaving. I was super grateful to him for helping us out! Our luggage will be forwarded by Kuroneko Yamato, the one with the super cute cat logo. :D
The train that was two a head of ours was 20 minutes late, but somehow ours was still on time. I’m amazed!
We are riding the Hikari 500 Shinkansen again. And we lucked out with seats on the correct side to see Mt. Fuji. Will Fuji-san bless us with a sighting again? It’s kind of cloudy outside. So we’ll cross our fingers!
Here’s another peek at the countryside. (Mike says we’re going 177 mph.)
Tea fields (I think) along the way - before Shizuoka.
Fuji-san graced us again with his proud profile.
The misadventure for today was learning that after getting off the shinkansen at Shin-Yokohama station, the green and blue JR lines require you to change trains. (Despite what our directions on the Navitime app lead us to believe.) So we went backward one train station and had to go forward again. Considering how minor that was, I still call our navigation a success, because we made it to Kamakura!
It was about 1:30 before we could get lunch and we were grateful to find the Tulley’s coffee shop. I got the avocado hot dog and Mike got a mini cheese pizza.
Then we walked about 10 minutes to see the Daibutsu (Great Buddha). This is the iconic shot everyone gets.
But I wanted to get a few less common pictures. One with a hawk or eagle who was keeping the Daibutsu company. (They seemed to hang around.)
And one looking up at the Buddha, as if I was a little kid.
The ocean was just a short way away, so we tootled over to the beach for a quick peek and to collect a few shells.
It was a great place for a panorama.
Finally, we navigated better on the way back to Yokohama and found our hotel easily. Tomorrow will be a great day! I get to see my dear friend! :D
